The MedStar NRH Punishers Wheelchair Rugby Team is a program available to anyone within the metropolitan DC area who is interested in playing the sport of wheelchair rugby. All equipment and training can be provided, based on request and availability. At a competitive level, wheelchair rugby is played by athletes who have a combination of upper and lower extremity impairments. It is a co-ed, contact sport played by individuals of all ages. We are also always looking for volunteers to assist at practices and tournaments!

The Punishers currently play within Division II of the United States Quad Rugby Association (USQRA).  During the standard season, September – April, the team typically practices on a weekly basis and travels on a monthly basis for regional and national tournaments. Once a season, our team partners with the Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) to host a tournament for teams within our region. Keep an eye out on our newsletter for tournament dates.

Please contact, Team Manager, Rita Penniman, at [email protected] for any additional information on the Punishers!
