Vic, MedStar National Rehabilitation Network's mascot, serves as a constant reminder to our Team Members to provide the highest quality patient care and customer service.
Adopted in 1999, the whimsical Vic character was selected through a Team Member contest to create a mascot. He derives his name from and is reminiscent of the MedStar NRH Victory Award® and from the similarly designed Victory of the Human Spirit® statue, which is the centerpiece of the MedStar NRH Victory Garden.
Vic sprouted to life after 50 MedStar NRH Team Members traveled to Orlando to participate in a Disney Institute training program and brought back a renewed appreciation for the need to have excellent customer service. In 2001, the Disney Institute awarded its prestigious ‘Mousecar Award’ to MedStar NRH for “successfully embracing, adapting, and implementing their customer service model.” This marked only the fourth time in Disney history that a hospital or health system earned a ‘Mousecar.’
MedStar NRH continues to maintain the same commitment to a safe and caring environment for patients and loved ones as it did when Vic was born, with smiling staff who meet you, greet you and say hello. We aim to keep our hospital and our outpatient locations as clean and friendly as possible with first-rate customer service along the way. For us it is all about the patient experience, being the best it can be, when a patient and family needs it the most.
This is truly what Vic embodies and it’s all part of our credo – Adding Life to Years.®
