MedStar NRH Rehabilitation Network, Federal Hill, MD provides physical therapy services. We work closely with the team of MedStar Orthopedic, Sports Medicine and Primary Care physicians in this innovative, multi-specialty MedStar Health Center. The Federal Hill team prides itself on providing exceptional customer service that begins with convenient access, a comfortable environment of care (with a beautiful Harbor view and plenty of free parking), and a compassionate team of highly-skilled clinicians and administrative staff. Our therapists treat a wide range of conditions and customize their treatment plans to optimize the outcomes for every patient.

Kenneth Veenema, MD, MBA
Medical Director, MedStar Health Primary Care Sports Medicine Program
Certifications: Board certified in Sports Medicine and Emergency Medicine with fellowship training in Sports Medicine at the University of Rochester.
Special interests: Diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound and guided injections

Dr. Veenema practices non-operative orthopaedics and sports medicine which includes nonsurgical treatment of fractures, musculoskeletal and overuse injuries, such as tendinitis, joint arthritis and other joint problems,  sprains and strains, and all other injuries of the upper and lower extremities.    He has added expertise in diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound and reviews the “total” picture to make a definitive diagnosis about an injury before treatment is rendered.

With 30 years of clinical practice experience Dr. Veenema serves as a Team Physician for the Washington Capitals.  He, himself, is a former Professional Baseball Player with the Chicago Cubs Organization and played Division I Baseball at Cornell University. He has served as team physician for many high school, college and professional level athletes. 

Dr. Veenema lives, works and plays in Federal Hill with his family who love the environment of the small close knit community.  He treats patients daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Feel free to schedule yourself anytime day or evening through ZocDoc or by calling 888 44 Sport between 8:00am to 6:00pm.


Rebecca Schwender PT, DPT, Clinic Coordinator: 

  • Rebecca obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from Dickinson College in both Biochemistry & Molecular Biology as well as in Theatre & Dance
  • She then went on and received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Delaware
  • Rebecca Heads the Performing Arts Program for MedStar NRH

 Mike Zarro, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS:

  • Mike graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology. He furthered his education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore and received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
  • He serves as Head Physical Therapist for Loyola University Maryland and Adjunct Faculty for the University of Maryland, Baltimore. He has additional training in Trigger Point Dry Needling, Selective Functional Movement Assessment, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, and Postural Restoration Institute.
