Physical Therapy Programs | MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital | MedStar Health

Welcome

We are an organization that strongly values education. Our goal is to provide a structured and well-rounded experience for our physical, occupational, and speech therapy students. Please use the side menu links to learn more about the many opportunities that exist for therapy students throughout our large, not-for-profit health system in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia.

General information

All students are sent an introductory letter that includes information about placement, preparation materials, clinical instructor contact, and requirements approximately 6 weeks prior to start date.

All students are welcome to participate in our Environment of Learning, which offers a variety of in-person, virtual, and on-demand seminars. Students have access to our online clinical library of articles and medical journals, as well as textbooks and resource materials at each site.

Inpatient rehabilitation

Our inpatient rehabilitation student programs are available at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C. and MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, MD. As a student, you will be part of a comprehensive, interdisciplinary team that includes therapists, psychologists, social workers, rehabilitation engineers, nurses, and physicians. We serve our patients with a strong "customer service and safety first" culture. In addition to excellent patient care, we focus on research and education.

MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital

Outpatient rehabilitation

Our 50+ outpatient facilities in the MedStar Health Physical Therapy network address the needs of a variety of patient populations for physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Clinics are in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and the Northern Virginia areas.

Additionally, we have outpatient centers on several of our hospital campuses which provide services for a broad range of diagnostic categories. Patients are treated by therapists individually, in groups, and through several interdisciplinary clinics.

Our students are supported by the Center Coordinator for Clinical Education (CCCE) as well as the Program Specialist of Clinical Education. We provide students with a safe learning environment that also offers a wide variety of patient populations. Students can participate in surgical observations, physician shadowing, sideline observations, interdisciplinary meetings, continuing education opportunities, etc. These additional resources and opportunities create a more well-rounded student experience.
